Auburn to honor Knowles

Auburn University will present an honorary doctor of science degree on Saturday to C. Harry Knowles, an Auburn alumnus whose optical scanning technology is used at every stage of commerce, including nearly every retailing check-out counter across America.

The Birmingham, Ala., native, a former U.S. Marine, is a 1951 graduate of Auburn with a degree in physics.

Knowles, who will receive his degree at a 10 a.m. graduation ceremony in BeardEaves Memorial Coliseum, was a varsity wrestler and was editor of the student yearbook.
