$3.64 per gallon: Another record high for gas in Columbus

The price of gasoline rose today in Columbus to another record high.

The average price of regular unleaded hit $3.64 locally, up from $3.622 on Thursday, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

A month ago, prices averaged $3.27 per gallon in Columbus. They were $2.87 per gallon on May 9 a year ago.

Athens had the highest average price today in Georgia at $3.66 per gallon, less than a penny more expensive than in Atlanta. The prices broke records in both cities.

The state's lowest average can be found in Augusta at $3.56 per gallon.

Diesel fuel prices also spiked higher today in Columbus to an all-time high of $4.24 per gallon, up nearly two cents from the day before.

Nationally, more records fell today.

The U.S. average for regular unleaded gas is a record $3.67 per gallon, AAA reported. Diesel reached $4.27 per gallon.
