Crowds flock to attic sale

When Brenda Clark and her daughter left the Columbus Civic Center Saturday, they pulled a green wagon piled waist high with clothes and other items.

"We had a great time," said Clark of Seale, Ala.

Clark and her daughter, Erin Anglin, of Smiths, Ala., joined thousands of bargain hunters for the 54th annual Junior League of Columbus Attic Sale.

Money raised from the donated items support programs in the community. Colleen Rustin, president of the Junior League, couldn't have been happier with the crowd that snaked around the Civic Center all the way to the football stadium early Saturday. "We have had a great turn out," Rustin said.

The Civic Center was filled with all types of clothes, toys, computer and electronics, exercise equipment, crafts items and other bargains. Some of the most unusual items included a life-sized Barbie doll and a dentist chair.

Rustin said there was very haggling from shoppers on prices. Most looked at the prices and agreed items were a good deal.

All the items not sold will be donated to the Valley Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter on Second Avenue in Columbus.

Sponsors for the event were St. Francis Hospital, Aflac and Burger King, Rustin said. Livingston Storage & Transfer Co. helped the Junior League move all the items to the Civic Center.
