Smiths Station High School senior Christian Scott was named a semi-finalist for the 2009 National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Scott was chosen out of more than 150,000 students who requested participation in the program when they took the 2007 PSAT. About 1,300 semi-finalists were chosen based on their test scores.

Scott is eligible to advance to the finalist level of the competition. To compete at the finalist level, a semi-finalist must present a record of high academic performance throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, earn SAT scores that confirm the PSAT performance and complete a scholarship application.

Every finalist will compete for one of 700 National Achievement scholarships, worth $2,500. Finalists could also be eligible for one of 100 Achievement scholarships, sponsored by various corporations and businesses.

The names of scholarship winners will be released in early April.
