Columbus State ranked fifth

The Columbus State baseball team is ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II Preseason Poll released by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Defending national champion Mount Olive is ranked first, followed by Tampa, Central Missouri, and UC San Diego.

CSU finished 49-13 last season and won its first Peach Belt Conference regular season title since 1996 with a 19-8 record. The Cougars open the 2009 campaign at home against West Alabama on Feb. 1.
