Troy University Chancellor Jack Hawkins to deliver commencement address at Troy-Phenix City graduation

Troy University Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr. will deliver the keynote address during the Troy-Phenix City commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20.

Hawkins will confer more than 180 graduate and undergraduate degrees during the ceremony. The event will be held in the Columbus Civic Center.

Hawkins is a native of Mobile, Ala., and has been chancellor of Troy since 1989. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Montevallo and his doctorate from the University of Alabama.

After he completed his bachelor’s degree in 1967, Hawkins was commissioned as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a platoon leader during the Vietnam War.

Hawkins’ professional background includes his service as an assistant dean at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and as president of the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind in Talladega.
