A Phenix City man died Saturday night in a one-vehicle wreck on Sandfort Road.
Frank Smith, 47, was driving near Flynn Hill when his SUV Trailblazer went off the road, said Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr.
“He hit a telephone pole,” Sumbry added. “He ended up 40-45 feet off the road in a wooded area.”
Authorities received the call about the wreck around 8 p.m., though Sumbry said the precise time of the accident wasn’t known. He pronounced Smith dead at 9:05 p.m.
Sumbry said Smith had massive blunt force trauma to the head and body. The coroner added that a toxicology report will be done.
