The Columbus-area Walmart stores will be offering free health screenings on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as part of what it calls “Walmart Wellness Day.”
The local outlets are among the 4,700 locations nationwide taking part in the screenings, which will check basic things such as blood glucose, blood pressure, body mass index and offer low-cost immunizations, the retailer said. Select locations may offer free vision screenings, it said.
Walmart said it is partnering with the American Diabetes Association for the effort, with the organization estimating nearly 8 million Americans suffer from diabetes, but don’t know it because they haven’t been diagnosed. This is the second year for the Walmart event, with the Arkansas-based retailer saying it has conducted more than 1.4 million free screenings in the U.S. since then.
Walmart operates supercenters on Gateway Road, Whittlesey Boulevard, Airport Thruway and Victory Drive in Columbus, and on U.S. Highway 280/431 in Phenix City.
