The Aflac duck is poised strike that classic Heisman pose in a new commercial scheduled to begin airing during this Saturday night’s Alabama-Michigan game on ABC. It will be played at Cowboys Stadium.
Dan Amos, chairman and chief executive officer, gave those attending the Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum today a sneek peak of the 30-second spot that features the duck rushing around with a football, then taking the familiar pose.
The clip includes someone in a body cast also in the Heisman position, an indication that Columbus-based Aflac pays those who purchase its supplemental insurance policies cash if they are injured or fall ill and have to miss work.
“Millions and millions of our customers are rabid and avid football fans and are attending the games and glued to the television,” said Aflac marketing and sales chief Michael Zuna, noting the company will be taking the Heisman Trophy to a series of games this fall to interact with business prospects.
Former Heisman Trophy winners will be on hand for those moments, which will include various games — Michigan State vs. Michigan, Oregon vs. Southern Cal, Notre Dame vs. Boston College and the Southeastern Conference championship tilt Dec. 1 at the Georgia Dome.
“When you start to connect that with our brand, we think it’s a great fit,” Zuna said of the Heisman marketing blitz that also will include a social media push and digital banners.
The “Heisman Rushing” commercial will air on various channels, including ESPN, CBS, ABC and Fox, he said.
It was late last year that Aflac became a sponsor of the Heisman, which is awarded each December to the best college football player in the land. Baylor University quarterback Robert Griffin III received the honor last year.
