Brasfield & Gorrie has been building things in the Columbus area since 1986.
But the Birmingham, Ala.-based construction firm on Tuesday opened its first Columbus office at 1027 Front Ave.
Keith Johnson, Brasfield & Gorrie’s regional vice president, said in a statement that it “just made sense” to have a local office considering the work the company has done here and the city’s potential for growth.
“To be local, we truly needed to establish ourselves here with permanent residents and a permanent office,” he said. “As the city and surrounding areas continue to experience population and job growth, we are hopeful the need for additional health-care facilities, retail centers, apartments, office buildings, etc., will continue to grow as well, and we plan to be the local go-to firm for those types of projects.”
Never miss a local story.
Specifically, the contractor has had a hand in building the Muscogee County School District headquarters and the Columbus Citizens Service Center on Macon Road, as well as the Columbus State University Student Recreation Center. It also is the primary contractor for the ongoing Eagle & Phenix Mill condo and loft apartment project.
The company said it anticipates the Columbus office will produce sales approaching $50 million in the new few years.
Brasfield & Gorrie is ranked the 31st-largest contractor in the U.S., according to Engineering News-Record. It has about 2,900 employees, with total revenue of $2 billion in 2012.
