One door is closing and another has opened for The Gap in Columbus.
The casual clothing chain is closing its store at Peachtree Mall on Tuesday, while it opened a new Gap FactoryStore today at Columbus Park Crossing on Whittlesey Boulevard, adjacent to Old Navy and Ross Dress for Less.
Gap manager Kari Joyner said the new store is larger and will have more employees. Its merchandise has also been expanded to include items for children and babies.
The company’s website describes Gap Factory as offering “accessible style at exceptional values for men, women, kids and baby.”
It was in August 1995 that The Gap opened its 5,561-square-foot store at Peachtree Mall, the city’s only indoor shopping center. The soon-to-be-vacant storefront is located between JCPenney and Dillard’s.
San Francisco-based Gap Inc. announced in late 2011 plans to shutter 189 stores in the U.S. by the end of 2013, while also expanding its global presence. It also has a line of Gap Outlet stores.
