Synovus Financial Corp. is putting scholarship money into the hands of its employees’ children once again.
The Columbus-based regional bank said Wednesday it has awarded $77,500 to 79 students through the Jack Parker Scholarship Foundation.
Synovus said 25 of the recipients are from the Chattahoochee Valley area. The bank has offices in five Southeastern states — Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The program is named in honor of the late Jack B. Parker, an executive who spent 44 years with Synovus and its division, Columbus Bank and Trust.
Never miss a local story.
“Jack’s enthusiastic attitude, keen sense of duty, and good heart were evident throughout his career,” the company said in a release.
Since 1988, Synovus has given nearly $2 million in scholarships through the foundation. Criteria include academic excellence, leadership and involvement in community activities.
