Yet another Dollar General store is opening its doors in the Columbus-Phenix market.
The Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based retailer said its new location at 2301 Cusseta Road in Columbus will have a grand opening at 8 a.m. Saturday. Prizes and giveaways are planned.
The latest outlet follows the May opening of a Dollar General at 1402 Broad St. in Phenix City.
The stores each employ between six and 10 people, the company said.
Dollar General already has 17 stores in the local market, including one in Cataula, Ga., north of Columbus, according to its website. That doesn’t include the two new ones, which will bring the total to 19 locally.
Another prominent low-cost retailer, Family Dollar, also is growing in the market. Columbus building permits show the chain constructing a new store at 2333 Hamilton Road, with a construction price tag of $750,000 for the 8,250-square-foot structure.
The Matthews, N.C.-based retailer already has 10 stores locally, according to its website.
Dollar General on Wednesday reported a record profit of $245.4 million in the second quarter of this year.
Family Dollar in July posted a profit of $120.9 million in its third quarter.
