A Paychecks for Patriots career expo will take place Oct. 17 at Columbus State University’s Cunningham Center, 3100 Gentian Blvd.
The event, which will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m., is part of a statewide effort by the Georgia Department of Labor to help soldiers exiting the military and veterans find civilian employers.
The department estimates up to 80,000 veterans will return to Georgia over the next four years in need of a job.
Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler, in a statement, said the effort is aimed at thanking those who have sacrificed for the nation and helping them find a good job once they’re back from duty.
“We owe it to them to do everything we can to assist them,” he said.
Several Paychecks for Patriots career expos are taking place Oct. 17, with others in Augusta, Atlanta, Savannah and Warner Robins. Aside from the Georgia Department of Labor, expo sponsors include the Tennessee Department of Labor, the Georgia National Guard, the Technology Association of Georgia, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency and Dollar General (a corporate host).
