Synovus Financial Corp. marked its 125th year in business in October. It also found “Little Ways to Make a Big Difference.”
The Southeastern bank, headquartered in downtown Columbus and parent of Columbus Bank and Trust, said employees in the five states it operates fanned out last month to give back to their communities.
“Big Difference” is part of the company’s REACH (Recognizing and Encouraging an Atmosphere of Community and of Hope) program.
Synovus said its workers “partnered” with 100 community groups and agencies, spending hundreds of hours on various projects and events.

Those included the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity and Junior Achievement, along with doing landscaping at schools and children’s homes.
“The success of this month-long outreach illustrates the passion our team members have for serving others,” said Kessel Stelling, Synovus chairman and chief executive officer, in a statement. “They selected projects in their local markets and did an incredible job of gathering items and donating time to a variety of great causes.”
The company said donations by staffers included:
$6,400 in monetary contributions
More than 4,600 non-perishable food items for food banks and shelters
More than 1,750 children’s books
More than 450 school supply items for after-school programs
More than 400 pairs of socks to shelters
210 pints of blood for the Red Cross
More than 125 pairs of shoes for Soles 4 Souls Program

Synovus operates in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee, overseeing $27 billion in assets through its 29 individually branded divisions, which include 280 offices and 375 ATMs.
