Columbus-area residents will have the opportunity to help a great cause while showing their vehicles some love next week.
“Changing Oil Changing Lives,” a fund-raising event scheduled Nov. 20 by Epperly Tire & Auto Centers, will benefit Valley Rescue Mission through the simple act of getting that precious fluid replaced in their car or truck.
All proceeds go to Valley Rescue, which operates the Crossroads Addiction Recovery Program, Damascus Way Home for Women & Children, Howard Mott Center for Men, and Camp Joy for boys and girls each summer in Harris County.
In its essence, the mission helps feed, house and nurture people in dire times of need. The organization, founded in 1963, also puts clothing, toys, fans and heaters in the hands of those who need them.
Never miss a local story.
In 2012 alone, Valley Rescue served more than 138,000 meals, offered roughly 42,000 nights of lodging and gave food baskets, clothing and toys to more than 9,000 individuals or families.
David Epperly, who started his tire and auto business in 1989, noted in a statement the mission’s work is critical year-round.
“They do go above and beyond for the community during the holidays, though, so we wanted to rally extra support for them in their efforts to provide for those in need during this holiday season,” he said.
The Epperly Tire & Auto Centers participating in the fund-raiser are at 2041 Auburn Ave., 1642 Whittlesey Road and 7608 Schomburg Road in Columbus.
