Yes, they’re promotions aimed at drawing customers into an establishment.
But the events also look to be sweet for some and painfully satisfying for others. And they both take place Saturday.
First the tasty stuff. The Bruster’s Real Ice Cream stores in Columbus will be offering a free small waffle cone to customers. The catch? You have to wear your pajamas, or PJs, to the store to get the treat.
The ice cream giveaway is good all day. But the entertainment will begin at 3 p.m. at the Wingstop eatery at 2528 Weems Road in Columbus. That’s when up to 14 people are expected to take part in an Atomic wing-eating contest, devouring blazing hot pieces of chicken — as many as their mouths can handle in four minutes. To the winner goes $100, while a runner-up pockets $50 and all participants get a T-shirt and advice to go throw on their PJs, head to Bruster’s, and cool off with free ice cream.
“The contest is going to get hot and it’s going to get messy,” said Ed Miller, franchise owner of both Wingstop and the Bruster’s stores, which are located on Whittlesey Boulevard, Macon Road and Schomburg Road. There’s also an outlet on Ingersol Street at Fort Benning.
