Whiddon becomes executive director of botanical garden
The Columbus Botanical Garden has appointed Matt Whiddon executive director.
A Columbus native, Whiddon graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in horticulture in 1996. He completed internships at nearby Callaway Gardens and at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa., and spent nearly four years in Atlanta working for Gibbs Landscape and Post Landscape Services.
Whiddon moved back to Columbus in 2000 and founded Columbus in Color Landscape Group, which is now in its 15th year.

Overton is now development director for Pastoral Institute
Carmen Overton has been named development director for the Pastoral Institute. She now is responsible for all aspects of the institute's fundraising, annual giving and capital development.
Overton previously served as director of "Right From the Start," the institute's marriage and family initiative. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Georgia, a master of education degree in special education from Columbus State University and a leadership and administration certification from the University of West Georgia.
American Building names Prescott its division sales manager
American Building Co. in nearby Eufaula, Ala., has appointed Bill Prescott division sales manager of the company's Atlantic Division.
Prescott brings more than 25 years experience to the job, most recently serving as a sales manager for another major Nucor company in Swansea, S.C. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Auburn University. He plans to relocate his family from Lexington, S.C., to Columbus.
