Jeff Meyer has been chief of Columbus Fire and EMS since the retirement of Chief Roy Waters. Since his appointment, many have moved up in the ranks and moved to other departments, where they serve the city of Columbus with utmost efficiency.
In his tirade against Jimmy Carter, the gentleman from Valley managed to denigrate the New Baptist Covenant, which took place not "a few weeks ago," but in January. In one sentence, he impugned the integrity of the over 15,000 Baptists, from 30 Baptist denominations (racially, geographically, and theologically diverse), who attended. He also judged them by writing that the convocation made a "travesty" of the words "Baptist," "Christian," "love," and "togetherness."
Thank you for publishing my letter about the man I remembered in downtown Columbus in the 1930s. The response I received was much more than expected. Several people called who did not remember the man, but just wanted to speak with someone from that time and neighborhood. Most of them had attended Eleventh Street School.
"Expelled" by Ben Stein is an excellent documentary about the persecution of educators who research Intelligent Design (I.D.). Stein did an outstanding job showing both sides of the evolution/creation debate. However, "Expelled" is more atheist vs. intelligent design (I.D.) than it is evolution vs. creation, which is a big difference.
Military retirees with service-connected disabilities continue to have their Defense Department retired pay reduced by the amount of disability that they receive from the Department of Veterans Affairs. If these veterans left the military after they incurred their service-connected disabilities and retired from any other federal agency except a branch of the U.S. armed forces, they would receive both retired pay and disability compensation in full.
Senator Barack Obama is trying to be a presidential candidate who transcends race, a post-civil rights candidate who does not remind America of her white supremacist legacy. However, his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is proving to be a thorn in his side. Following Rev. Wright's recent media blitz, Senator Obama decided to fully repudiate his former mentor.
Something is going wrong with our business system today. I read on the Internet that the CEO of Countrywide made $137 million last year with salary and stocks. The company had a loss of $893 million and is up for sale to Bank of America.

The attempt was a thin disguise to accent the break-off of liberals from Conservative Southern Baptists and to embarrass the Southern Baptist Convention. Carter publicized his break from the SBC a few years ago, so why should he continue to attempt...
It's been said that the truth hurts. The historical truth of racism is certainly a wrenching reality.
A very serious incident occurred at our home. Our three-year-old daughter Sadey, who is in the process of being diagnosed for autism, went missing. It had only been about five minutes when we realized someone had left the front door open and she was gone. Sadey was nowhere to be found, and where we live is a very dangerous place because there is a lot of water around.

During my term as president of the State Bar of Georgia, I have been able to observe the many positive contributions our members are making outside the realm of the legal profession and the justice system. The response of the restaurant owners in Columbus with respect to House Bill 89 concerns me, because they choose to snub the law-abiding citizen and cater to the criminal element with respect to gun laws. The criminals will not abide by the law outlined by House Bill 89, or any other gun control laws.

With recent ownership changes of local hospitals, it has been said that Columbus offers a wide array of services. This is misleading. The delivery of pediatric healthcare is suffering in our community.
