Finding the perfect Mexican restaurant is one of life’s great victories. But with so many great places scattered around the city, it might take you awhile to search out the best ones for you.
To help narrow down the search a little, we compiled user reviews from TripAdvisor, Yelp and Google Reviews to get the top five best-rated Mexican places in Columbus. But don’t let these selections hold you back — check out all the different Mexican spots Columbus offers, and then see some of our other lists if you’re looking for some other lunchtime inspiration.
It’s a kind of road wisdom that the best Mexican places tend to be the little spots tucked away in strip malls or behind grocery stores. Columbus has quite a few of these hidden gems, and La Nacional at 440317th Ave. is one of the best, reviewers say. “It’s like stepping out of Georgia right into Ciudad de México,” said Katie on Yelp. Reviewers love the authenticity, attached market, tacos and guacamole.
Never miss a local story.
Super Mercado Las Americas, at 4101 Hamilton Rd., is another one of these hidden hotspots. It’s an authentic restaurant hidden in the back of a super market, serving up carne asada, tortas, steak tacos and cactus salad. “It’s Columbus’ best kept secret,” one reviewer wrote on Google.
Another local spot nestled in the back of a grocery store at 3305 Victory Dr., La Mexicana is a hit for its authenticity, affordable prices and generous servings. Reviewers all seem to agree that the barbacoa is a can’t-miss item.
“It just keeps getting better,” said one reviewer of Buena Vista Mexican Restaurant, at 4475 Warm Springs Rd. The hotspot is a hit for its extensive buffet, stewed chicken, dips and, of course, margaritas.
Don Chucho’s, at 5770 Milgen Road, is known for its great customer service, vibrant and lively atmosphere and great enchiladas and guacamole. “Nice little hideaway for locals away from the busier Mexican joints in Columbus,” wrote one reviewer on Google.
