A new study from Offers.com found that Georgia’s tailgaters are especially enamored with a few traditions during game days — and they probably aren’t that surprising for anyone who has ever headed out to the stadium.
Georgia’s favorite tailgating food was chicken wings, and it was the county’s favorite food as well. Burgers finished as a close second, and were the favorite in Alabama, with pizza, nachos, hot dogs and tacos rounding out the results.
A nice frosty beer was the preferred drink, and 43 percent of Americans agreed. The runners-up were soda, hard liquor, wine and Gatorade. Georgia tailgaters drank an average of three drinks for every tailgate session, and so did fans in Alabama.
That’s actually less than a lot of the country — fans in Connecticut and South Dakota, for example, guzzle down nearly five drinks per tailgate.
As for game day activities, cornhole blasted all other games out of the end zone. It was more than half of America’s favorite tailgating pastime, and easily captured Georgia’s heart as well. Beer pong and Frisbee toss were the closest runners up.
The study also found that most people prefer watching NFL games, but more than 60 percent would rather tailgate at a college game. Most also said they were “home-gaters” who grill out with friends and family from their own home.
About a third of people chose to head to the stadium, with the rest catching the game at a friend’s house or local bar.
