Columbus crews are still working hard to clean up storm debris.
Director of Public Works Pat Biegler said as of 3 p.m. Wednesday the barricades had all been taken up with only one street in Columbus still closed and that was because Georgia Power was repairing a pole.
“Things have gone very smoothly,” Biegler said.
She said the city received 120 calls for downed trees.
She feels bad for people who had a tree come down but she said, “we were blessed because we expected worse from this storm. It could have been a lot worse.”
Beigler it will take until early next week to pick up the tree parts on city land and a couple of weeks to have it all collected from private property.
Crews have already cleared debris off of areas on streets where vehicles might strike it.
Biegler said there was some flooding in south Columbus.. There were six calls.
“It was minor flooding. That is the oldest part of the city,” she said, talking about the drains.
