The annual Association of Sickle Cell Lower Chattahoochee Region will hold its annual 2.3 mile walk Saturday at Third Avenue and Fifth Street in Columbus.
An estimated 500 walkers are expected for the event which kicks off at 8 a.m. with registration and the walk at 9:30 a.m., said Lois Williams president of the nonprofit organization. The event is aimed at raising awareness about the disease and funds to help with treatment.
The event is open to anyone who wants to walk, jog, run, trot or even ride in your decorated vehicle. Walkers gather at Fourth Street Baptist Church and go north on Third Avenue to 12th Street. The group goes west on 12th Street to Broadway and continue south back to the church on Fifth Street.
Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under 6 are free.
