A free car seat check will be conducted by Safe Kids of Columbus Saturday morning.
It will be held at the location of its partner for the event U.S. Health Works, 7901 Veterans Parkway. That is at the intersection of Williams Road.
The event will be 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Appointments are not necessary
The goal is to raise awareness about proper child restraint and to offer assistance to parents so they can make sure the child is riding properly restrained.
Safe Kids Worldwide reports 3 of 4 car seats are not used correctly.
Georgia law requires that children ride in the back seat in a car seat or booster seat until they are 8 years old.
Tthe restraint must be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
“A child under 8 has a greater risk of dying in a motor vehicle crash if that child is not secured in an appropriate child safety seat. Our kids are just too important to ride unprotected,” said Pamela Fair, Safe Kids Columbus director.
