Columbus police said the SUV driver who fatally struck a cyclist early Thursday on Manchester Expressway drove away from the crash before stopping to report it.
Christopher Reed was identified as the 33-year-old who died followed the 12:52 a.m. wreck near Psalmond Road. His body will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Decatur of an autopsy, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said.
Authorities were called to the intersection of Manchester Expressway around 12:52 a.m. to investigate a crash.
A 48-year-old man was traveling southeast on Manchester Expressway in his 2006 Dodge Durango as Reed was heading southeast on his bicycle on the right edge of the roadway. The SUV and bicycle collided near Psalmond Road, authorities.

The driver of the SUV told officials he drove about .4 miles away from the area before reporting the crash because he thought he hit a deer, according to police.
Officials stated that the contributing factors of the crash include Reed disregarding a traffic control device and not being visible to others on the roadway. The incident remains under investigation.
