The Russell County Commission has officially agreed to purchase the old Mead Coated Board headquarters building at 1000 Broad St. in Phenix City.
The county voted 6-0 to purchase building for $5 million during a called meeting of the commission Monday afternoon. The new building will become the site of essential county services, including probate, revenue and mapping and appraisal. The old courthouse will be the Justice Center.
The purchase will be funded by a $7 million bond issue, though the interim purchase will be made via a $5 million load from Phenix Girard Banks. The closing date for the purchase is Aug. 21.
