Columbus attorney Stephen Hyles will discuss challenges lawyers face in high-profile, divisive trials in a presentation inspired by attorney Atticus Finch from the celebrated book "To Kill a Mockingbird" next Thursday.
"Becoming Atticus: A Lawyer's Appreciation of 'To Kill a Mockingbird'" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Columbus Public Library auditorium, 3000 Macon Road.
Hyles' appearance is part of "The Big Read," a month-long celebration of author Harper Lee's classic tale of life in Alabama during the Great Depression. The event is sponsored by Muscogee County Friends of Libraries, the Chattahoochee Valley Regional Library System and Fort Benning Libraries.
Another event associated with "The Big Read" will be the visit of C-SPAN's Book TV Bus, a 45-foot mobile television production studio, to two local libraries.
The bus, making a nationwide tour, will be at South Columbus Branch Library and available to the library's after-school program from 3-5 p.m. next Thursday, and will be at Columbus Public Library from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
