The March of Dimes Georgia Chapter and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGa) Foundation today announced a partnership naming BCBSGa the presenting sponsor for the March of Dimes Prematurity Campaign in Georgia, according to a press release.
“We are thrilled to have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia join us in the fight against premature birth,” said Mark Gibson, state director for the March of Dimes Georgia Chapter. “In Georgia, premature birth is the number one killer of newborns. By helping to fund important research and education, March of Dimes and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia can help give every baby a fighting chance.”
November is Prematurity Awareness Month, a time to recognize the growing crisis of premature birth and an opportunity for the March of Dimes to support and educate moms about how to give their babies a healthy start in life. Currently, 340 Georgia babies are born prematurely each week. With the national rate rising 30 percent in the last 20 years, premature birth is a serious and costly problem.
March of Dimes Georgia events planned for November Prematurity Awareness Month center around “Every Baby Has a Story,” a new grassroots and integrated media project celebrating babies -- those born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive. An online video contest, story sharing website at www.marchofdimes.com/everybaby and a national bus tour all share the theme of uniting families to tell stories of the babies in their lives.
