Timika Reese, a member of Girls Incorporated of Columbus and Phenix Russell, was runner-up in the weather safety category in the national Safest Kid In America Contest.
Reese is a member of the Booker T. Washington Center. She is a sixth grade student at Midland Middle School.
She will be awarded a $500 savings bond.
Her entry was a color drawing which provided detailed instructions for four major situations: "In Case of a Thunderstorm; In Case of a Tornado; In Case of an Earthquake; and In Case of a Flood."
