A Salem man may have shot his wife before turning the gun on himself, police said Tuesday.
William H. Brown and Patrica Brown, both 45, were found in the bedroom of their Woody Acres Drive home with single gunshot wounds to the head Tuesday afternoon, Russell County coroner Arthur Sumbry said.
Sumbry said it appeared that William Brown shot his wife with a handgun before turning the gun on himself. Brown and his wife were pronounced dead at around 4 p.m.
Russell County Sheriff's office Lt. Heath Taylor said Brown and the bodies of Brown and his wife have been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics to determine if the case was a murder/suicide. Taylor said he hoped a preliminary report would be available by the end of the week.
