The Phenix City Council placed liens on and put in motion the demolition of several substandard structures in the city during Tuesday's council meeting at the Public Safety Building.
The structures — located at 1107 11th St.; 222 14th Ave. South; 224 14th Ave. South; 226 14th Ave. South; 2207 16th Place; and 2209 16th Place — will cost the city $16,335.70 for demolition and removal minus credit for salvage.
Phenix City has waged a steady campaign against substandard housing in the city. Mayor Jeff Hardin called it "the Laningham factor" during Tuesday's meeting, referring to Phenix City Beautiful director Georgia Laningham.
Phenix City Beautiful under Laningham's guidance has pushed for the cleanup of blighted areas and the demolition and removal of substandard housing.
