Russell County sheriff's officers have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting and kidnapping a woman in February.
William Cook, 25, will be charged with rape, robbery and kidnapping in connection with a incident during the early morning hours of Feb. 14, in which a woman reported that a man entered her home on County Line Lane, Lt. Heath Taylor said.
The woman told law enforcement officers that the man sexually and physically assaulted her, before kidnapping her at gunpoint.
The man then forced the woman back into her own car, a black limited edition 2002 PT Cruiser with a chrome grill and an Alabama tag.
He forced the woman to drive the car, while he sat in the back with the gun. Taylor said he was looking for an ATM.
As they approached a stoplight near the intersection of Highway 80 and Auburn Road, the woman was able to slow the car down enough to bail out.
The man then jumped from the back seat of the car to the front and drove off.
Taylor said Cook lives in the same neighborhood as the victim on County Line Lane and that investigators had DNA evidence linking him to the crime.
Cook was already been booked into the Russell County Jail on traffic violation charges yesterday. He will be charged with the other crimes today.
