The Arts Association of East Alabama will host a welcoming reception for the new superintendent of Lee County schools, Steve Nowlin.
The reception will be held Thursday, April 17 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. EST at the Railroad Depot on South Railroad Avenue in Opelika.
Nowlin was chosen to serve as superintendent for the district in February, after serving as interim superintendent for about seven months. Former superintendent John Painter stepped down in August after spending 16 years in the job.
The Lee County School System educates about 10,000 students at 12 schools: four high schools, two junior highs, four elementary schools, an intermediate and a primary school. It employs about 1,200 employees and has a budget of around $82 million.
Never miss a local story.
