Muscogee voters will have two new places to cast their ballots in advance of the July 15 election.
Advance voting for state and local party primaries and Columbus' city sales tax referendum will be July 7-11. Because of a surge in advance votes during the Feb. 5 presidential preference primary, Muscogee will be opening new satellite polls, at Columbus State University's Cunningham Center, 3100 Gentian Boulevard, and at the Frank D. Chester Recreation Center, 1441 Benning Drive, said elections director Nancy Boren.
Those will be in addition to the polls where Muscogee residents previously have voted in advance — the Columbus Public Library on Macon Road and the elections office in the west wing of the city Government Center on First Avenue.
About 4,000 Columbus residents cast advance votes in the Feb. 5 primary, most at the library, Boren said. With both party nominations hotly contested, the local turnout jumped to 42 percent, she said.
Absentee voting for the July 15 election starts June 2. The last day to register is June 16.
