Twenty students, 10 boys and 10 girls, have been named as finalists for the first Vincent J. Dooley Awards and scholarships. Two are from Shaw High in Columbus.
Those students are Juan Pickett and Chantelle Quintana.
The awards, presented by Athletes for a Better World and the Georgia High School Association are given to student-athletes who exemplify distinguished individual character, outstanding teamwork and citizenship in their communities.
The winners will be announced at Turner Field on Sunday before the beginning of the baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves.
