The Lanett, Ala., man who authorities say fired shots at officers remained in The Medical Center Monday in unsatisfactory condition from a gunshot wound.
J.B. Evans, 58, was shot by a Lanett Police officer around 11:30 a.m. Sunday after Evans was found wandering the 1700 block of 24th Street Southwest with a revolver, said Chief Teddy Morris. Evans was told several times to put the gun down, firing shots at police before he was struck in the lower back.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
Earlier that day, police had received a call a mile from the shooting about Evans disturbing the peace.
Never miss a local story.
The officer who shot Evans, a three-year veteran of the police department, has been put on paid administrative duty pending the completion of an Alabama Bureau of Investigation report, Morris said.
