State Sen. Ed Harbison received a challenger in his bid to continue serving District 15.
Reginald "Reggie" Pugh, 54, qualified Tuesday as a Democrat for the state senate seat. President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Columbus, Pugh will face off against Harbison, D-Columbus, in the July 15 primary.
State Sen. Seth Harp, R-Columbus, also qualified Tuesday. He currently has no opponents.
District Attorney Gray Conger also chose the second day of qualification to throw his hat in the ring. Conger, 62, qualified as a Republican to retain his office. He currently has no challengers.
Lee Ferrell, 57, of Albany qualified Tuesday against U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, congressman for the 2nd Congressional District. Ferrell lists his occupation as a disabled veteran.
Local Democratic candidates can qualify for offices from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Friday at the Columbus Community Center. Alice Pate, chairwoman of the Muscogee County Democratic Committee, can be reached at 706-494-3740.
