Ground was broken Friday for a major Kia supplier, Sewon American Inc., in LaGrange, Ga.
Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue participated in the ceremony for the factory, which will employ 700 at full capacity. Korea-based Sewon is investing $170 million into the plant over three years.
Sewon is locating on 86 acres in Callaway South Industrial Park in LaGrange.
The 420,000-square-foot facility, which will begin production in fall 2009, will supply the massive Kia auto complex in nearby West Point, Ga. It will make stamped chassis and body components, as well as decorative trim.
Sewon Group, headquartered in Daegu, Korea, has been a Kia supplier for more than 20 years.
