City leaders may go from dusk 'til dawn when it comes to restricting access to a Columbus lake off Weems Road.
Columbus Council today was to consider a law prohibiting people fishing or boating 6 p.m.-7 a.m. in the Watershed Park at 3131 Stinson Drive, where neighbors complained about noise coming from the lake at night.
But during the spring and summer, 6 p.m. is a long way from sunset, and Councilor Skip Henderson felt keeping the public out of a public park so long before dark was unreasonable.
So instead councilors at their 5:30 p.m. meeting today are to consider a revised ordinance that would keep people out of Watershed Park from sunset to sunrise, relying on the times set daily by the U.S. Naval Observatory and typically publicized along with local weather reports.
Never miss a local story.
The law is to include an exception for activities scheduled by the city's Parks & Recreation Department.
