Lt. Col. Dean Weiler will assume command of the 2nd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment, Infantry Training Brigade from Lt. Col. Christopher S. Forbes during a change of command ceremony at 8 a.m. May 28 on Pomeroy Field.
Weiler was commissioned as an Army second lieutenant following his graduation from Eastern Washington University in 1990. He is also a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he earned a master’s degree in education.
Weiler is no stranger to Fort Benning. He first served here as a company commander and as an operations officer. His most recent assignment here was as the executive officer for the 4th Ranger Training Battalion, Ranger Training Brigade, and then as the Ranger Training Brigade’s operations officer.
He and his wife Dana are the parents of a son, Jared.
Forbes will deploy to Iraq with the 10th Mountain Division, where he will serve as the chief for strategic and future operations plans.
The 2-54 is one of six battalions that make up the Infantry Training Brigade. These battalions conduct 14-week cycles of Infantry basic training, providing instruction in basic soldier and Infantry skills.
