Tuesday was a night of awkward song choices for the three "American Idol" finalists -- but the majority of those selections were out of their control.
One singer will be eliminated in tonight's show, which airs at 9 p.m. on Fox.
The contestants this week sang three songs each, two of which were chosen by powers within the "Idol" machine: judges and producers. During both of those rounds, contestants were repeatedly criticized for poor song choices.
But the tunes singers chose independently didn't help their cases, either. In that round, David Archuleta proved to be too much of a ballad singer to take on Chris Brown's pop hit, "With You," while Syesha Mercado inexplicably chose "Fever," a song that only reinforced perceptions that she's a better fit for Broadway than the recording industry.
Never miss a local story.
David Cook, meanwhile, picked "Dare You To Move," a safe choice that made the rocker's fatigue apparent.
