The "Breakfast for All" program will end at the close of the 2007-2008 school year.
"We're really going to miss it," said Phyllis Jones, the principal at Rigdon Road School where the program began.
On August 6, the school district's launched the pilot program that provided breakfast for all elementary school students at no charge. "Although the program has been of great benefit to the students who have participated, it is longer viable. With the emergent national rising food prices, the plate cost for breakfast has exceeded the cost projections for the pilot program," said Jimmie Barnett, Director of School Nutrition.
The School Nutrition Department will continue to provide breakfast and lunch during the 2008-2009 school year. Students will receive meals based on eligibility status of full price, received price or free.
