Georgia Insurance Commissioner John W. Oxendine is not pleased that Gov. Sonny Perdue signed into law Senate Bill 276 which allows insurance companies to raise rates on most automobile insurance policies without the commissioner's approval.
"The signing of Senate Bill 276," said Oxendine, "ranks as one of the biggest disappointments from a chaotic legislative session, where the leaders of both chambers failed to meet the expectations of the citizens of Georgia. In today's economic environment, the bill leaves Georgians vulnerable to drastic automobile insurance rate increases. It was the result of a deal between trial lawyers and the insurance industry with Georgia citizens left out of the process."
