The Mayor's Committee for Persons With Disabilities hosted Disabilities Day 2008 at the Columbus Government Center on Thursday.
Scott Sieg got the youth award. He participated in the Special Olympics in China.
Jane Nichols got the Dr. Jack Hughston Humanitarian Award. She is the President and CEO of Goodwill and is seen a role model and someone who has a significant impact on the community.
Employer of the year was Goodwill which provides training and job placement for the disabled.
Jodi Hood was honored as the person of the year. She is a Columbus State University student who is deaf and mentors others who are deaf.
The outstanding volunteer was Lisa Jenkins who began the Muscogee County Autism Support Group and the Autism Hope Center.
Carl Dekker was given the exceptional service award. He is the coach of the Muscogee Lions adapted sports program.
Also honored in that category was George Gatewood whose business supplies prosthetics for underprivileged children.
