Rent A Gym in Harmony Place recently wanted to get the community involved in improving their personal health. The "Rent A Gym Challenge" was offered to people who wanted to “look better and feel better."
The challenge was professionally conducted by Kim Herring, wellness director of Rent A Gym, who has a degree in Exercise Science from Columbus State University.
Rent A Gym customers who wanted to participate were placed in teams consisting of two people. The Challenge was conducted over a 12-week period. The final winners were decided based on the percentage of weight loss for each person on each team. The winning team would be presented a grand prize of $500.
This week, Rent A Gym announced the winners of the First Semi-Annual Rent A Gym Challenge: Jackie Pugh, 53, a Muscogee County educator and her husband Alex Pugh, 44, a photo manager.
Their total weight loss was 25 pounds.
Here is part of Jackie Pugh's testimonial:
"I had been going to Weight Watchers and was doing fairly well but felt I could do more. Alex had been going to a local gym and was doing OK as well. Then Alex's schedule changed and it was difficult for him to get to the gym. Since our son went with him, he was left without being able to go as well.
"The gym contract was up for renewal so Alex decided to see if we could find something else. We happened upon Rent a Gym one afternoon. We found that we could rent a machine ...Time was no longer a factor. It could be used morning or night or whenever a few minutes could be found. I was able to gain the benefits of being able to use it along with my good eating habits.
"I have a new lifestyle that includes being conscious of what I eat and making time for myself to stay fit. I don't have to travel anywhere and at home, I have no excuses. Our Rent a Gym equipment has been great for Alex, as he can use the machine before he goes to work when he goes in at his regular time. If he has to go to work early, he can come home, exercise right here, and then get a shower. Our son is really enjoying being able to take advantage of the machine as he strives not to get to the point where Alex and I were where we had to do something — or our health was really in jeopardy. He has set a goal of doing what he should now and reaping of the benefits of a good program.
"We enjoyed taking part in the Rent a Gym challenge not just because of the prize money. We both feel the benefits of better health after our weight loss. I actually even lowered my blood pressure. We have Kim to thank who also encouraged us weekly as we came in to get weighed. Alex and I had a competition with each other to see which of us could lose the most in the time period. (I won.) Maybe he will beat me the next time but I am going to do my best to make sure that I am the biggest loser."
