Andy Scales, an English Instructor at Chattahoochee Valley Community College, represented the college at the Alabama Community College System Leadership Academy this year.
The Academy was designed by the University of Alabama to help community college faculty and staff enhance their leadership skills. Participants become familiar with the responsibilities of different divisions within the community college system.
Participants are chosen for the Academy by their college presidents.
Scales, who has been teaching at the college since 1995, said the leadership program was valuable.
"The Leadership Academy allows its members a vision of the Alabama college system that is not available in the daily working environment… by breaking down the borders and introducing its members to the many areas that make the community college system work in the state of Alabama. By focusing on leadership styles, team work and decision-making skills, The Academy also enables its members to become better stewards of each individual campus as well," he said in a press release.
