A Columbus police officer fired his gun at a wanted man early this morning, putting the officer on administrative leave and the suspect in police custody.
Jeremy Lewis, 22, was fired at by the officer, whose name wasn't released, when he approached the patrolman with what appeared to be a knife during a footchase behind 1413 Foy Ave., said Maj. Julius Graham.
Lewis was wanted for beating his girlfriend around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Graham said, and officers were on their way to Singer Drive in search of him when they spotted Lewis at Foy Avenue and Singer.
Lewis, who fled after being shot at, wasn't hit by the officer, Graham said.
