The Frontline "O.C." Men's Transition Center will have its grand opening Saturday. The location is 1214 18th Ave. The center is operated by Frontline Ministries, led by Pastor Steve Chittum, a former Fort Benning garrison sergeant major.
The purpose of the facility is to provide a haven for men who have experienced joblessness, homelessness, addictions, prison and other life-altering challenges, but who are actively seeking restoration and a full return to participation in society and productivity in their lives and with their families. The initials ‘O.C.’ reflect the motto of the center: "Overcoming Challenges Together." The ministry offers assistance in obtaining a full range of services for our residents, including job skills development, interviewing skills, resume writing, anger management, interpersonal relationships and leadership development. It also works with other agencies to assist residents with G.E.D. preparation, medical and dental screening, as well as social security and veterans’ benefits.
A service begins at 3 p.m. Saturday at East Highland United Methodist Church, 1301 17th St., then participants will walk across the street to the center. The center recently had a $5,000 renovation.
