The image of Michael Jason Registe, wanted for the July 20 slayings of two Hardaway High School graduates, has gone worldwide.
Information about Registe, 25, now appears on Interpol's Web site and a "red notice" has been issued against him, said Stephen Emmett, media coordinator with the FBI. Red notices -- recognized in many countries as a basis to arrest someone -- help foreign authorities identify or locate people wanted by a specific law enforcement agency.
"It's a flag in case he is stopped abroad," Emmett said. "It's pretty global."
Registe is wanted by the Columbus Police Department for the deaths of Randy Newton Jr., 21, and Bryan Kilgore, 20, who were found shot in the parking lot of Cross Creek Apartments.
Kilgore had been an all Bi-City star pitcher for Hardaway High School's baseball team and was a pitcher with the team at Columbus State University. Newton, also a Hardaway athlete, had planned to enroll at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C.
The FBI wants Registe because he fled the country after the slayings, Emmett said.
Registe was initially thought to have run to the U.S. Virgin Islands and then to the Caribbean island of Dominica. The red notice reflects the possibility he's no longer in that area, Emmett said.
