A Macon County man was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Lee Road 10 in Auburn Friday night.
Cortez Gates died due to multiple blunt force injuries he received after the 1995 Chevy Caprice he was driving left the roadway and overturned at around 10:20 p.m. CST, according to a news release from Lee County coroner Bill Harris.
According to the release, Gates was traveling west on Lee Road 10. As he approached a curve in the road near the intersection of Lee Road 22, he apparently lost control of the car and overturned.
Gates was pinned in the vehicle and it had to be lifted to allow rescue personnel to free him from the wreckage. It is unclear whether he was wearing a seatbelt.

Gates, 23, was pronounced dead on the scene by Lee County Deputy Coroner Gene Manning at 10:35 p.m.
A passenger, William Walker, was not injured and declined medical attention.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers and the Lee County Coroner's Office.
